NEXTGK SCHOOL: saves and dives from Toronto to Niagara

Summer is known as a period of holidays and relaxation, but not for those who work in the world of football and with boys. Among the many camps more or less high-level and more or less interesting, there is one in Canada that has no equal in importance and quality … A camp for only number 1, a camp designed and proposed only for goalkeepers!

The guests present during the week of the event were of the highest level, with leading figures from the European and world football scene, and all was planned to make the 50 plus goalkeepers live a week as protagonists, who also this year have secured themselves all the available spots in a flash.

The credit of the success of the camp goes to a friend of many Canadian adventures: Emanuele Ameltonis who, for 8 years already, has been running his goalkeeping school called Next Generation Keepers right in Toronto and who has strongly wanted this event, arrived at its 5th edition.

Special guest of the event was the Goalkeeper Chief Scouting of FC Juventus Massimiliano Colucci, in the past also goalkeeper coach of the Canadian National Team with Carolina Morace and Betty Bavagnoli, who with great availability and team spirit dispensed valuable advice, raising the bar with specific high-standard exercises. The rest of the staff was composed by coaches from the Next GK, already on Emanuele’s team, and another Italian goalkeeping coach, Roberto Pieraccini from the Italian goalkeeping school “Imparando Academy”. It’s with the latter that the collaboration has been strengthened in the last years, favoring cultural and technical exchanges between young Canadian goalkeepers who come to Italy and young Italian number 1 arriving in Canada … All thanks to Emanuele Ameltonis and Matteo Bonavolontà, Technical Director of the Imparando Academy and current goalkeepers trainer of China’s National Youth teams. The latter was the great absent at the 2019 event for work reasons.

THE FACT

… The organization was perfect in every detail, with work stations set to achieve different goals, each developed according to degrees of difficulty, divided into groups by age and capacity. This made the whole week productive and at the same time fun …!

To complete the staff of coaches I was there too and, not being specialized in the sector, I decided to base my work on the fundamental principles for the modern goalkeeper, therefore basic technique, distribution, tactical readings, game times and everything a number one needs today.

A perfect organization in every single detail, with work stations set to achieve different goals, each organized by different degrees of difficulty and divided into groups by age and capacity. This made the whole week productive and at the same time entertaining, especially the last training session with lots of games and challenges and with prizes to be won was beautiful and stimulating: first of all the official jersey autographed by Cristiano Ronaldo, kindly provided by Mr Colucci. The big news of this edition was a session of the camp in Niagara: the first time ever for a camp specifically dedicated to goalkeepers only, which saw the presence of many young people experiment the methods and proposals made by the staff. This was also a great achievement, given the large number of young people who came to Niagara Falls in the two days, which certifies the great work of the entire organization and the excellent quality of the event.

As for me, I came out of this event –very different from those I’m used to– feeling very gratified and happy to have cooperated with a great team of professionals! Naturally, this adds to the satisfaction of having shared another great success with Emanuele, with whom we have faced so many crazy adventures in Canada! I remember, taking a few leaps back in time with my mind, when we almost won the CSL championship with me on the bench and he between the posts to defend the goal. Today it was funny to find ourselves not far from those fields to live this experience.

EMANUELE: MENU FOR THE FUTURE?

“On September 7 there will be the Summer Closing Event, a day of training and fun for the closure of this fantastic sporting season which will then resume in November with the winter work classes. 2020 promises to be a year full of many news and events between Canada and Italy, which I’m planning with my staff, friends and associates to improve the Next Generation Keepers even more. See you on the field #1! “.

Another beautiful reality I wanted to tell, that of the NextGK, and another friend of adventures that I wanted to introduce you … Good luck Emanuele … Keep going!
